Starting university is both exciting and daunting at the same time. While many students look forward to the independence of being at university, it can also bring challenges such as loneliness, feeling homesick, and stress from deadlines.
Our companions are here to help. Read on to learn more about the support we
Whatever subject you're studying, our companions can accompany you to your lectures and stay with you to help with taking notes. We can even take you to the lecture hall itself if need help with transport from your accommodation.
Our team can also help you with getting additional help from your university and with understanding Disability Support Allowance forms.
We support individuals with mental health and learning difficulties across the Worcestershire area, including younger adults, so you can be sure that you'll have someone who understands your needs and who will do everything possible to help you enjoy your university experience.
We know it can be hard to keep on top of coursework deadlines, particularly when having to balance university with part-time work and going to socials. We can help you stay on track.
Your companion could even become a study buddy - someone to bounce ideas off and to help you revise for upcoming exams. Some of our team are recent graduates themselves, and so can fully appreciate the stress that you might be under.
Or if you want someone to take you to the library and stay with you while you work, we can help with that, too!
We have a diverse group of companions here at Better Together, who all come from different walks of life and have a varied set of hobbies and interests.
Our team includes a poet, artist, and recent graduates. We always enjoy getting involved in new activities, so if you have a particular talent or passion, we have the right companion who you can share it with.
We can also help you to find clubs and peer support groups outside of university, helping you connect with more like-minded people while you study.
Starting university can be especially daunting when moving to a new, unfamiliar city. We are here to help you settle in.
Our companions can help show you around the city and where to find the best places to enjoy a coffee, the best shops, and where to explore a little further afield. We have connections to the cities of Worcester and Birmingham, and can help with arranging days out.
We can even show you some of the hidden gems that you might not have heard of!
The pressure of studying can be harder when balancing other commitments, such as caring for a relative. We recognise that these commitments can take their toll, particularly when exams get underway and deadlines loom.
Our companions can help take some of the workload off your shoulders. We can keep your loved one company for a while or help them to get to medical appointments, leaving you to focus on your studies.
If you need a break or are worried about fitting caring for a loved one around your lectures, we are here to share the duties. Our companions are all DBS-checked and are more than happy to keep your loved one company with a cuppa or taking them out for a couple of hours while you're in the lecture hall or revising.
At Better Together, we aim to provide a consistent service to help you enjoy your university experience. Our companions are not carers and do not wear uniforms, meaning that our support is discreet and flexible according to your unique requirements.
